Many of the children who need foster care have been through some traumatic experiences. They may have quite challenging behaviours or just feel very lonely and afraid. As a foster carer, you will provide day to day care for a child in placement and will support them, help them develop and advocate on their behalf.
Here are some key skills and qualities that we look for in our carers:
Caring for children
 | An ability to provide a good standard of care to other people’s children

 | An ability to communicate with children and manage their behaviour appropriately

 | An ability to understand a child’s past in order to promote his/her emotional well being

Provide a safe and caring environment
 | An ability to ensure that children are safe from harm whilst in your care and in the community

Team work and personal development
 | An ability to work with all the professional staff involved in the child’s life in order to promote their best interest
